Your Zimbabwean safari starts now. This country has so much to offer when it comes to wildlife, people and southern African landscapes, and after a few brief introductions, we'll have your safari underway in no time.

Victoria Falls will leave you spellbound with its scale and majesty: it really is one of the most remarkable natural scenes in Africa. It's not hard to see why locals call it Mosi-oa-Tunya, or the ‘smoke that thunders’.

Kasane

If you look at Kasane on a map, you'll see that it's close to where four countries meet: you're in Botswana, but Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe are all a short drive away! Kasane itself is a quiet provincial town with an attractive riverfront setting and a real feeling that safaris and wildlife are not far away.

Chobe National Park

Explore Chobe National Park, a park famous for its big cats, especially in the Savuti region, while the Chobe Riverfront section of the park is particularly good for big herds of big elephants.

Elephant Sands Game Reserve

Get really close to elephants as they come down to drink at the waterhole in Elephant Sands Game Reserve. Elephants pass by the waterhole throughout the day, making this one of the best places to see elephants anywhere. You might even see lions.

If you've always dreamed of being close to elephants, you'll love Elephant Sands Lodge. Accommodation includes large safari tents and a campground, and the public areas have a bar-restaurant and swimming pool. But the main highlight here is that the whole place surrounds a waterhole where large numbers of elephants come down to drink throughout the day.

Day 5

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Watch as the sun sets out over the eternal horizon of the salt pans, or watch lions hunt along the shore of the often-dry Boteti River. It's all possible in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, an excellent park that also hosts an annual zebra migration, has meerkats and brown hyenas, and generally sees fewer visitors than most other Botswana parks.

This morning, you'll pause your safari and join us for breakfast in Elephant Sands Game Reserve.

Afternoon

Just outside Makgadikgadi Pans National Park this afternoon you'll meet a family of meerkats. They're used to human beings, so you'll get lots of close-up photos as the meerkats go about their business, including standing to attention to watch for predators.

Lodge Just outside Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

At friendly Planet Baobab, you're close to the quiet town of Gweta and to Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. There's a range of accommodation here, and it's all decorated with warmth and charm. The same goes for the public areas, such as the gardens, the bar and restaurant, and the swimming pool. You'll meet lots of other travelers here.

Day 6

Maun

Maun is often where the excitement of being on safari begins to take hold. So much of what goes on in this relaxed city, which is strung out along the banks of the Thamalakane River, is focused on getting you out on safari or welcoming you back in from the wilds of northern Botswana. It has good restaurants, accommodation and a range of shops.

Hotel

Sedia Hotel is your base while you're in Maun, and it's a good one. Most of the appealing rooms have their own private terrace or balcony that looks out over the hotel's gardens, and the riverside location is a real plus. Maun can get very warm, and the swimming pool is perfect on a hot afternoon. There's also a bar and restaurant at the hotel.

You'll return to Maun and get to take in all that it has to offer again.

Traveling in a Mokoro, Okavango Delta

Slow down and travel with us at the speed of a dugout canoe poled by a local who knows the waters here better than anyone. Apart from the chance to see elephants, hippos, crocs, and other wildlife, it's the most romantic way to soak up the silence and explore the Okavango Delta.

Okavango Delta

When you visit the Okavango Delta, you can look forward to a wonderful wildlife experience against a watery backdrop of islands and river channels. Expect elephants, giraffes, zebras, crocs, hippos and buffaloes, and possibly big cats too.

Walking safari, Okavango Delta

Come with us on a walking safari, where you'll enjoy the thrill of stepping out into the African wild with an experienced guide. Although you won't be watching the animals from a vehicle, it's still very safe, and it's a priceless opportunity to feel really connected to the animals you'll see and the landscapes you'll explore in a whole new way.
