Day 1

Welcome to Zimbabwe! It's time to get your safari started, and after some minor introductory formalities, we'll get you out there on this wonderful safari journey of discovery.

One of Africa's mightiest rivers and an icon of the southern African safari, the Zambezi has almost as many personalities as it does miles. Go birding, watch wildlife come to drink along its banks, or sense the gathering suspense as it nears Victoria Falls in all its explosive glory.

Your journey with us starts here in Victoria Falls Airport this afternoon when one of our representatives will greet you and make sure your trip begins well.

In Zambezi River, you'll join us for a sundowner, that classic safari tradition of having a few drinks in a beautiful place while you watch the sunset.

Chobe National Park

You can look forward to a world-class wildlife experience in Chobe National Park. Savuti, which lies within Chobe's boundaries, is famous for its ferocious lions and leopards, while Chobe Riverfront, close to Kasane, is a wonderful place to see big elephants, big cats, and plenty of action as wildlife comes down to drink by the riverbank.

Elephant Sands Game Reserve

Get really close to elephants as they come down to drink at the waterhole in Elephant Sands Game Reserve. Elephants pass by the waterhole throughout the day, making this one of the best places to see elephants anywhere. You might even see lions.

Afternoon

The guided game drive is the best thing about going on safari and that's what you'll be doing this afternoon in Elephant Sands Game Reserve. From the comfort of your vehicle, there's always a chance that you might see some of the animals that you came so far to see.

Dinner will be served in Elephant Sands Game Reserve.

Elephant Sands Lodge

If you've always dreamed of being close to elephants, you'll love Elephant Sands Lodge. Accommodation includes large safari tents and a campground, and the public areas have a bar-restaurant and swimming pool. But the main highlight here is that the whole place surrounds a waterhole where large numbers of elephants come down to drink throughout the day.

Day 6

Makgadikgadi Pans National Park

Watch as the sun sets out over the eternal horizon of the salt pans, or watch lions hunt along the shore of the often-dry Boteti River. It's all possible in Makgadikgadi Pans National Park, an excellent park that also hosts an annual zebra migration, has meerkats and brown hyenas, and generally sees fewer visitors than most other Botswana parks.

At friendly Planet Baobab, you're close to the quiet town of Gweta and to Makgadikgadi Pans National Park. There's a range of accommodation here, and it's all decorated with warmth and charm. The same goes for the public areas, such as the gardens, the bar and restaurant, and the swimming pool. You'll meet lots of other travelers here.

Day 7

Maun

Maun is an essential part of the experience of going on safari in northern Botswana. It is the country's gateway to the north, especially to and from the Okavango Delta. It is perfectly set up to enhance your safari experience, from good restaurants, accommodation and shops, to the relaxed setting along the banks of the Thamalakane River.

Hotel

Sedia Hotel is your base while you're in Maun, and it's a good one. Most of the appealing rooms have their own private terrace or balcony that looks out over the hotel's gardens, and the riverside location is a real plus. Maun can get very warm, and the swimming pool is perfect on a hot afternoon. There's also a bar and restaurant at the hotel.

Day 8

Okavango Delta

You're in for a real treat in the Okavango Delta, one of southern Africa's iconic safari destinations. Partly it's the landscapes of islands, rivers and lakes that you'll love, but these are also the backdrop to an astonishing array of wildlife. At a minimum, you'll see lots of giraffes, elephants, crocs, hippos, zebras, buffaloes and more, and all three of the big cats are often seen as well.
